Frequently Asked Questions

What can I recycle in the Envirobank machine?

You can recycle any PET bottle (plastic bottles) and all aluminium cans.

Why does it reject items that don't have a barcode?

The Envirobank needs to read the barcodes in order to sort the plastic and the aluminium into the correct bins.

Can I put anything that has a barcode into the Envirobank?

No! The Envirobank not only reads the barcode but also scans the material to ensure that it can be recycled, and that it is empty.

What do I do with other plastics, such as takeaway containers?

At the moment, these need to be placed in the general waste bin, located next to the envirobank machine.

What do I get for recycling?

Rewards will vary from month to month, so keep using the envirobank machine or logon on to www.metcentre.com.au to find out the monthly promotion.

Can I recycle more than one item?

Yes - feed all the recyclables into the Envirobank, and then collect your reward.

Do I need to keep my coupon to redeem my reward?

Yes. The coupon has valuable information about the corresponding reward and will direct you on how to reeedeem your reward.

Can I recycle my coupon?

Yes, but not in the Envirobank machine. The Envirobank is only for plastic beverage containers and aluminium cans!.

What happens if I press the yellow button?

When you press the yellow button a Kids Helpline video will play letting you know about the free helpline. This helpline is for kids aged between 5 and 25, who are having problems at home, school or just need to talk to somebody who will listen. From time to time we will play other community messages.

Can I get a swipe card?

Register at www.envirobank.com.au to receive your loyalty card.

What happens to my can or bottle when I put it into the Envirobank?

The can or bottle will be scanned for a barcode to check if it is either plastic or aluminium. It will then be crushed and go into the appropriate bin in the bottom of the machine. When the bins are full we will take them to a recycling plant where your crushed bottles and cans will be recycled into many new things.

Aluminium cans are recycled into new aluminium products including aeroplanes, cars, and more cans.

Plastic containers are recycled into plastic lumber for picnic tables and park benches, carpet fibre, clothing, automotive parts, paint brushes, and more plastic bottles.

Why does the machine not accept my container when it is aluminium or PET?

The machine is new to Australia, and there are thousands of products on the market, we need to teach the machine about the materials to collect, if your container does not register it is recorded on the machine and barcodes are uploaded that evening so it will be accepted, on your next visit. It will be recycled if left in the machine, our cleaners will place it in the recycle bin.
