NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.


NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee — the body that helped establish this week of recognition. It’s a chance to honour the world’s oldest continuing cultures, reflect on milestones like the 1967 referendum that voted to include Aboriginal people in the national census, and embrace this year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”

Join us in the celebration this week with an exhibit of art, treats with significance and a chance to win with some knowledge.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art is far more than decoration — it is a powerful expression of culture, storytelling, and connection to Country.

For tens of thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have used art to pass down knowledge, share creation stories, mark significant places, and celebrate community and identity.

    A note from the artist: "Walls and All" is my indigenous artwork, exploring the struggle of vulnerability and the delicate balance of keeping emotional walls intact. As a bright and extroverted individual, I struggle with opening up while maintaining a cautious approach to who I let into my inner world. Inspired by the geometric and vibrant grunge aesthetic of the 90s, I've infused this style into the artwork, creating a visually captivating piece that exudes nostalgia.

    Through "Walls and All," I aim to pay tribute to those who, like me, face difficulties with vulnerability.

  • Significance of the Rainbow Serpent

    The Rainbow Serpent is one of the most powerful figures in Aboriginal Dreamtime stories.

    A creator spirit tied to water and life, it’s said to have carved the rivers and shaped the land as it moved across Country.

    In art, the Rainbow Serpent symbolises fertility, renewal and a deep spiritual connection to nature—reminding us of the need to respect and care for the land.

  • Tall Ships

    Located in Kakadu

    There is a depiction of a two-masted sailing ship with an anchor chain in the rock art at Nanguluwurr, located on the northern side of Burrunguy (Nourlangie) in Kakadu National Park. 

    This painting is an example of the early European contact era art in the area and is found alongside depictions of ancestral spirits and animals. The rock art at Burrunguy (Nourlangie) is a significant cultural site, with paintings spanning thousands of years, showcasing Aboriginal life and interactions with Europeans
